Jaguar XJ6, XJ40 4.0 litre automatic, first registered 21/09/89 and supplied by Mead Jaguar of Bolton. This is one of the first of the “1990” updated 4.0 litre models, with new engine and dashboard. This car was ordered by the supplying dealer Mead of Bolton as a demonstrator to a very high specification with all possible extras. This specification took the car up to sovereign spec but retained the much nicer and more traditional Jaguar twin headlamps. The car comes with all the handbooks, service books, instructions for the sound system and tools etc. In the paper work, it even has the original bill of sale a heady £27,000 back in 1989. This XJ40 is in outstanding show condition, with the exceptionally low mileage of just 19,100 miles from new. Finished in the stunning colour combination of Diamond Blue with Saville Grey leather, complimented by teardrop alloy wheels. Uprated air conditioning, E/sunroof, E/windows, E/mirrors, C/locking, E/aerial and rear headrest etc. This car still sports the supplying dealers number plates and rear window sticker. The car was heavily rust proofed from new and has always been dry stored. The car comes with a large history file, tool kit and all handbooks. A very original XJ40 in show condition. The XJ40 is a rare sight on today’s roads and even more so to see one in this condition. Certainly one of the very best on offer.
Is the Jaguar XJ40 still an under appreciated classic that’s much more affordable than its older siblings ?  Well not any more as the model is garnering more and more interest, values for quality cars are now creeping ever upwards. The 1980’s style is gradually becoming regarded as classic in its own right. Once a relatively common sight until only recently the XJ40 is now firmly in the enthusiast category, with survivors now cherished modern classics rather than daily runners. The drive is as smooth as you could ask for, as good as any Rolls-Royce in its day but with better handling. The model is comfortable, with a near silent cabin and is easy to drive, you could travel to the South of France and feel like you’ve just got out of your favourite arm chair.  The XJ40 was a very important model for the Jaguar car company, as it revitalised sales of the saloon range and helped achieve the highest annual sales to date in 1989 with over 50,000 units being sold. Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons acted in a consultative role during the XJ40’s early phase, he was shown the final prototype shortly before his death in 1985, he was said to be approving of the car – thus the XJ40 is widely believed to be the final Jaguar to have had Lyons’ involvement. The XJ40 left production in 1994.
