Bentley 4 1/4 litre Thrupp and Maberley. A handsome car finished in desirable Bentley Dark Green with Saddle leather interior. The car is in a lovely, smart and sharp condition. The paintwork is to a high standard, the leather is excellent, as is the headlining. The interior wood veneers are stunning, with a superb finish. Some nice features include P100 ‘bullseye’ headlights (unusual for a Derby Bentley) and handsome ‘trouser crease’ wings. The car comes with a significant maintenance and repair history file, with two large folders going back to the 1980s, showing a great deal of expenditure, together with various other literature and an original handbook in lovely condition. There is also a small selection of spare parts included. It is apparent just from looking at the car that it has been well cared for and has been in long term ownership some 38 years. Running and driving very nicely, having just undergone major engine work done by a reputable Bentley/Rolls Royce specialist. The work included a brand new cylinder block from Ristes. New block, new std FWT pistons, new rings, new gudgeon pins, main bearings checked, big end delivery pipes checked and cleaned, cylinder head cleaned, painted and valve stem oil seals replaced, one valve guide replaced. Sump thoroughly cleaned, new lock tabs used, head re-torqued after 115 miles and oil changed. Carbs cleaned and balanced, air filter cleaned and all new gaskets. The car has now covered circa 300 miles. Fitted with overdrive makes this Bentley a very competent car for touring.
The first owner was Sidney Charles Harrison, whose business manufactured curtain poles and furniture, they had some 1,200 employees. Sidney was a serial Rolls-Royce & Bentley owner with his first Rolls-Royce being a 1925 Phantom I saloon (he owned a total of 15 Rolls-Royce cars) and his first Bentley being a 1935 3 ½ Saloon (he owned a total of 4 Bentleys).
Shortly before his death (1944) B68GA was acquired by Harold Andrews, an engineer who formed HAGCO. Andrews was also involved with British Petroleum Ltd and Airwork Ltd, they had a fleet of Hermes, Vikings and Dakota aircraft.
